PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) — Holger Durre has worked in emergency services, administration, labor relations and fire suppression. He’s adding fire chief of Prescott to his resume.

The city announced the selection of Durre as its new fire chief Thursday. He’ll start the job on March 14, the Prescott Daily Courier reported.

Durre, 46, was chosen from among 50 applicants in a nationwide search. He succeeds Dennis Light, who retired late last year after serving as fire chief for more than seven years.

Durre moved from Germany to the United States with his family when he was 12.

He spent most of his career at the Poudre Fire Authority in Fort Collins, Colorado. He most recently was the deputy fire chief for support services in Boulder, Colorado.

He told the Daily Courier that he saw similarities between Boulder and Prescott in the city structures and where homes come up against undeveloped areas prone to wildfires. He said he’ll prioritize working with other agencies in the region to reduce the risk.
